Back in the China groove

你好!

After finishing our Kickstarter campaign and a bit of planning in London, on Monday, we said goodbye to our friends and returned to China. Despite missing home every now and then, we really enjoy this side of the world and never find it too hard to come back.

We will try to do a good job at documenting our experiences, from food tastings and wild street vignettes to funny messages on t-shirts, mainly through these updates and social media. Follow us: Twitter | Facebook | Instagram

Flat hunting

With more team members coming out to China over the next few weeks, and our long term commitment to the factory and the city, we thought it would be nicer (and cheaper) to find a team flat rather than live in a hotel. Yesterday we found one and we have just moved in. The top picture shows us with our new neighbour, wearing a hat, and Mike in a white shirt

Hardware

Laurence Symonds, a RCA graduate with a background in product engineering, will arrive here next week to help us implement the speed improvements we discussed with the community during the campaign. We worked with Laurence when we were building the case for Kniterate, and from day one we thought he would be a great fit for the team. We are looking forward to his arrival. Co-founder Tom will visit us a few weeks later to work on the updated electronics and firmware and to remind us it’s tea time.

Software

UX designer Kwong Li and wordpress developer Amber Weinberg are working on a new Kniterate website which will include a forum for you to discuss all things Kniterate.

The forum will contain a section dedicated to software development of which our early bird backers will be the first guests. We will slowly rollover invitations for the rest of our backers.

The space will allow our community to discuss which features they want, and how we should prioritize them. We will keep making and sharing different mockups until we have defined enough of the app to start programming.

Our experience with building the first iteration taught us that it’s better to clearly define and design the features and user experience before starting the development. This allows the developers to know what is needed from the get-go, making the development process easier, faster and cheaper.

The new website will also be able to take pre-orders of Batch 2 Kniterate, with delivery estimated to be in August 2018.

Partners

We were selected to be part of Commonwealth First, a programme that wants to encourage startups to trade and invest across the Commonwealth. A trip to Canada is scheduled this year and to Australia next year. We hope to see you there!

Thanks for your continued support, we are off to eat some noodles!
